Japanese Rice Bag 'Komebukuro' Workshop

Fancy making something a little different with your fabric stash? Meet the Komebukuro, a traditional Japanese rice bag originally used to carry offerings to temples or to hold gifts for someone special. These days, they make gorgeous little bags for all sorts of things, and they're a great excuse to get creative with your scraps!

In this workshop, I'll show you how to make your own Komebukuro using just two fat quarters, a bit of rope and some interfacing. But here's where the fun starts! You don't have to stick to new fabric. Raid your stash, rescue an old shirt, repurpose leftover quilt blocks or mix and match those fabric scraps you've been hanging onto because they're just too good to throw away.

Want to add a bit more personality? Have a play with Boro or Sashiko stitching, throw in some contrasting fabrics and make it completely your own. There are no rules saying everything has to match!

Whether you're new to sewing or just looking for a fun little project, you'll leave with a beautiful Japanese-inspired bag and a few more ideas for giving forgotten fabrics a new lease on life.

What to Bring: Sewing Machine & Attachments, Sewing Kit  (scissors, marker, pins etc.), 2 Fat Quarters, Woven Clothing or Boro/Sashiko Squares, Matching Thread, Med-Heavy Interfacing, Morning Tea, Water/Drink.
